In its continued commitment to strengthening leadership capacity across the Service, the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) organised a two-day Senior Leadership Soft Skills Development Workshop themed “Executive Presence and Strategic Leadership Communication” for members of its management team and some selected staff on Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th November, 2025, at Wingate Exotic Hotel, Ilorin. The training was facilitated by Dr. Eno Maycock of Stirling Development Consultants, United Kingdom.

Dr. Maycock, in her opening session, defined executive presence as the ability to inspire confidence and trust, especially in periods of change. She highlighted the importance of clarity, composure, and consistent delivery of results as core attributes of effective leadership, and led participants in group activities, hypothetical scenarios, and collaborative exercises aimed at strengthening their executive presence and communication style.

Speaking at the workshop, the Executive Chairman, KW-IRS, Shade Omoniyi, encouraged participants to glean as much knowledge as possible from the training and utilise the experience to drive meaningful impact across the Service.

Joining the training virtually, Lt. Col. Paul Carcone, a United Kingdom military veteran, lent his voice to the discussions, sharing leadership experiences drawn from military operations. He connected the principles of influence, discipline, and trust-building to organisational leadership and team performance.

During the feedback and reflection session, the KW-IRS Directors present at the training emphasised the need for leaders to guide their utterances, lead with humility at all times, and embrace collaboration and teamwork as essential drivers of productivity. They commended the practical structure of the training and noted that strong leadership requires sound judgment, emotional intelligence, and adherence to organizational values.

Giving the closing remarks, the Director, Admin and Operations, reiterated that humility often outweighs technical ability in leadership and reminded participants to separate emotions from work, applying the teachings with innovation and creativity. He appreciated the facilitator for the insightful engagements and further urged the participants to transform the lessons learned into daily leadership practice.
